Do you really need a 5 year plan?

Good question. I can assure you if you asked younger me that question 5 years ago she would have been determined that she needed a 5 year plan in order to succeed in life. Spoiler Alert! She was wrong and I am on a very different path than what 15 year old me thought she would ever be on.

Our world is constantly changing and so are we. Society and social media in this day are such a big influence on what we deem is a good timeline for our lives considering they both can change in the blink of an eye. For example, think about just how much tiktok trends change each year especially over the summer. Thinking back to Tiktok 2020, the entire vibe is so different to where we are right now in 2025 and with that we changed too.

I have always been a planner and for so long in high school I had this plan that included becoming an optometrist, getting married by 23 (not quite sure why this was the plan), first child by 28, training to be a dance teacher after becoming an optometrist. Yeah now that I list it off I realise just how unreasonable these plans were. I am not saying that we should go into every part of our lives completely blind and make all our decisions in the moment. What I am saying is we need to not be so fixated on a plan that is so likely to change, that we don’t get to experience the joys of life that are right in front of us.

My plans now include the things I want to happen in my life like one day becoming a wife and being a Mum, graduating my degree and becoming an MRI tech and eventually publishing a book. Now some of these things may take until I’m way older to do and what I’m learning is that’s okay. I am allowed to have goals and aspirations for my future but what hurts me is when I limit them to a certain timeframe because when I don’t succeed in them I feel like I have failed.

Let me tell you. YOU HAVE NOT FAILED. Life isn’t a pass or fail.

You get to make the life of your dreams, don’t forget it.

All my love,
